In general when I have to change something I’m used to and familiar or comfortable with, I find myself just short of annoyed, but certainly more inconvenienced than inspired.
This doesn’t really surprise me – I’m pretty Type-A and don’t normally just change for the fun of it. I like process, I’m comfortable in habit, and definitely thrive in environments where I know the rules, limits and boundaries.
I think this is similar to the experience of travelling to a new country, where you happen to speak the language. Not having to worry about communicating (at least physically), you are able to enjoy the experience on a deeper level.
In parallel, operating in a familiar space and being able to speak the “logistics” of my surroundings allows me to more easily expand into deeper thought and understanding, rather than having to spend energy understanding my place in and the logistics of a given situation.
